Why is Revelation called the Revelation of Jesus Christ?

The Book of Revelation carries the name it does because it is, from its very first verse, described as a disclosure concerning Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:1 says, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John." This shows a clear order in how the revelation came: God the Father gave it to Jesus, Jesus sent it by an angel to John, and John wrote it down and delivered it to the church.

The whole book is a revealing of the judgements of God that relate to the coming and crowning of Jesus Christ as Lord of lords and King of kings. It is not merely a random collection of visions; it is specifically about Him, His authority, and His installation as ruler of the earth. The purpose of the book is to show God's servants the things that must come to pass before that crowning takes place, so it warns and comforts the body of Christ at the same time.

Because the content centers on Christ from beginning to end, His identity, His authority, His return, and His reign, the book rightly bears His name. It is not John's own vision or interpretation; John simply bore record of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, writing all that he saw so that it could be shared with the seven churches and, ultimately, with the whole church.
